Between October 26 – November 8, 2019, 45 samples were checked: 58% (26) were substances and 42% (19) were used paraphernalia.

Checked samples by expected drug

When a sample is submitted to be checked, the drug that sample is expected to contain is recorded. Of the 45 samples checked between October 26 – November 8, 2019:

  • 31 were expected to be fentanyl
  • 6 were expected to be methamphetamine
  • 3 were expected to be MDMA
  • 2 were expected to be cocaine
  • 2 were expected to be ketamine
  • 1 was expected to be caffeine

Expected fentanyl samples

Of the 45 samples checked between October 26 – November 8, 2019, 69% (31) were expected to be fentanyl (42% were substances and 58% were used paraphernalia).

  • 6% (2) contained no fentanyl
  • 6% (2) contained only fentanyl
  • 87% (27) contained fentanyl and other drugs

Of the 31 samples expected to be fentanyl, 87% (27) contained fentanyl and other drugs. Other drugs found included:

  • 96% (26) contained caffeine
  • 59% (16) contained despropionyl fentanyl (4-ANPP)*
  • 44% (12) contained heroin
  • 33% (9) contained 6-MAM (heroin-related)
  • 30% (8) contained phenacetin*
  • 26% (7) contained cocaine
  • 19% (5) contained one or more benzodiazepine or benzodiazepine-related drug*:
    • 19% (5) contained etizolam*
    • 4% (1) contained flubromazolam*
  • 19% (5) contained fentanyl (hydroxy)*
  • 11% (3) contained furanyl UF-17 (opioid-related)*
  • 11% (3) contained norfentanyl*
  • 7% (2) contained AMB-FUBINACA (synthetic cannabinoid-related)*
  • 7% (2) contained carfentanil*

Other expected drug samples containing unexpected noteworthy drugs

Of the remaining 14 samples checked between October 26 – November 8, 2019, meaning samples that were not expected to be fentanyl, 7% (1) contained one or more unexpected noteworthy drug. Unexpected noteworthy drugs found included:

  • 50% (1) of expected cocaine samples contained phenacetin*

 

*Unexpected noteworthy drug: “Noteworthy drugs” are drugs that are highly potent, linked to overdose or other adverse effects, or may not be desired by some clients. Noteworthy drugs are called out when they are unexpectedly found in checked samples.
