Checked samples by sample type
Between November 23 – December 6, 2019, 31 samples were checked: 55% (17) were substances and 45% (14) were used paraphernalia.
Checked samples by expected drug
When a sample is submitted to be checked, the drug that sample is expected to contain is recorded. Of the 31 samples checked between November 23 – December 6, 2019:
- 19 were expected to be fentanyl
- 3 were expected to be methamphetamine
- 5 were expected to be other drugs, including: benzodiazepine, carfentanil, cocaine, LSD, and MDMA
- 1 was expected to be a polysubstance
- 3 did not have a stated expected drug
Expected fentanyl samples
Of the 31 samples checked between November 23 – December 6, 2019, 61% (19) were expected to be fentanyl (42% were substances and 58% were used paraphernalia).
Presence of fentanyl in expected fentanyl samples (19)
- 11% (2) contained no fentanyl
- 5% (1) contained only fentanyl
- 84% (16) contained fentanyl and other drugs
Expected fentanyl samples containing fentanyl and other drugs (16)
Of the 19 samples expected to be fentanyl, 84% (16) contained fentanyl and other drugs. Other drugs found included:
- 94% (15) contained caffeine
- 81% (13) contained despropionyl fentanyl (4-ANPP)*
- 75% (12) contained 6-MAM (heroin-related)
- 44% (7) contained one or more benzodiazepine or benzodiazepine-related drug*:
- 44% (7) contained etizolam*
- 6% (1) contained flubromazolam*
- 38% (6) contained codeine
- 38% (6) contained heroin
- 25% (4) contained cocaine
- 13% (2) contained furanyl UF-17 (opioid-related)*
- 13% (2) contained phenacetin*
- 6% (1) contained AMB-FUBINACA (synthetic cannabinoid-related)*
Other expected drug samples containing unexpected noteworthy drugs
Of the remaining 12 samples checked between November 23 – December 6, 2019, meaning samples that were not expected to be fentanyl, 15% (2) contained one or more unexpected noteworthy drug. Unexpected noteworthy drugs found included:
- 33% (1) of expected methamphetamine samples contained despropionyl fentanyl (4-ANPP)*
- 33% (1) of expected methamphetamine samples contained fentanyl*
- 33% (1) of samples that did not have a stated expected drug contained despropionyl fentanyl (4-ANPP)*
- 33% (1) of samples that did not have a stated expected drug contained fentanyl*
*Unexpected noteworthy drug: “Noteworthy drugs” are drugs that are highly potent, linked to overdose or other adverse effects, or may not be desired by some clients. Noteworthy drugs are called out when they are unexpectedly found in checked samples.
