Between March 28 – April 10, 2020, 12 samples were checked: 42% (5) were substances and 58% (7) were used paraphernalia.
Checked samples by expected drug
When a sample is submitted to be checked, the drug that sample is expected to contain is recorded. Of the 12 samples checked between March 28 – April 10, 2020:
- 3 were expected to be fentanyl
- 2 were expected to be methamphetamine
- 1 was expected to be crack cocaine
- 1 was expected to be heroin
- 5 did not have a stated expected drug
Expected fentanyl samples
Of the 12 samples checked between March 28 – April 10, 2020, 25% (3) were expected to be fentanyl (33% were substances and 67% were used paraphernalia).

Of the 3 samples expected to be fentanyl, 100% (3) contained fentanyl and other drugs. Other drugs found included:
- 67% (2) contained 6-MAM (heroin-related)
- 67% (2) contained caffeine
- 67% (2) contained etizolam (benzodiazepine-related)*
- 67% (2) contained heroin
- 33% (1) contained despropionyl fentanyl (4-ANPP)*
- 33% (1) contained furanyl UF-17 (opioid-related)*
Other expected drug samples containing unexpected noteworthy drugs
Of the remaining 9 samples checked between March 28 – April 10, 2020, meaning samples that were not expected to be fentanyl, 67% (6) contained one or more unexpected noteworthy drug. Unexpected noteworthy drugs found included:
- 100% (1) of expected crack cocaine samples contained levamisole*
- 100% (1) of expected crack cocaine samples contained phenacetin*
- 100% (5) of samples that did not have a stated expected drug contained fentanyl*
- 40% (2) of samples that did not have a stated expected drug contained carfentanil*
*Unexpected noteworthy drug: “Noteworthy drugs” are drugs that are highly potent, linked to overdose or other adverse effects, or may not be desired by some clients. Noteworthy drugs are called out when they are unexpectedly found in checked samples.
