Results from 55 samples checked: January 4 – 17, 2020

Checked samples by sample type

Between January 4 – 17, 2020, 55 samples were checked: 75% (41) were substances and 25% (14) were used paraphernalia.

Checked samples by expected drug

When a sample is submitted to be checked, the drug that sample is expected to contain is recorded. Of the 55 samples checked between January 4 – 17, 2020:

  • 23 were expected to be fentanyl
  • 8 were expected to be cocaine
  • 6 were expected to be a 2C class drug
  • 5 were expected to be methamphetamine
  • 3 were expected to be amphetamine
  • 9 were expected to be other drugs, including: 5-APB, AMT, benzodiazepine, crack cocaine, ketamine, MDA, and Percocet
  • 1 did not have a stated expected drug

Expected fentanyl samples

Of the 55 samples checked between January 4 – 17, 2020, 42% (23) were expected to be fentanyl (39% were substances and 61% were used paraphernalia).

  • 9% (2) contained only fentanyl
  • 91% (21) contained fentanyl and other drugs

Of the 23 samples expected to be fentanyl, 91% (21) contained fentanyl and other drugs. Other drugs found included:

  • 67% (14) contained caffeine
  • 62% (13) contained despropionyl fentanyl (4-ANPP)*
  • 33% (7) contained one or more benzodiazepine or benzodiazepine-related drug*:
    • 29% (6) contained etizolam*
    • 14% (3) contained flualprazolam*
  • 38% (8) contained cocaine
  • 29% (6) contained 6-MAM (heroin related)
  • 24% (5) contained methamphetamine
  • 14% (3) contained furanyl UF-17 (opioid-related)*
  • 14% (3) contained phenacetin*
  • 5% (1) contained acetyl fentanyl*
  • 5% (1) contained AMB-FUBINACA (synthetic cannabinoid-related)*
  • 5% (1) contained norfentanyl*

Other expected drug samples containing unexpected noteworthy drugs

Of the remaining 32 samples checked between January 4 – 17, 2020, meaning samples that were not expected to be fentanyl, 13% (4) contained one or more unexpected noteworthy drug. Unexpected noteworthy drugs found included:

  • 25% (2) of expected cocaine samples contained phenacetin*
  • 13% (1) of expected cocaine samples contained levamisole*
  • 20% (1) of expected methamphetamine samples contained phenacetin*

 

*Unexpected noteworthy drug: “Noteworthy drugs” are drugs that are highly potent, linked to overdose or other adverse effects, or may not be desired by some clients. Noteworthy drugs are called out when they are unexpectedly found in checked samples.
