Between December 21, 2019 – January 3, 2020, 25 samples were checked: 76% (19) were substances and 24% (6) were used paraphernalia.

Checked samples by expected drug

When a sample is submitted to be checked, the drug that sample is expected to contain is recorded. Of the 25 samples checked between December 21, 2019 – January 3, 2020:

  • 9 were expected to be fentanyl
  • 5 were expected to be MDMA
  • 3 were expected to be methamphetamine
  • 2 were expected to be benzodiazepine
  • 4 were expected to be other drugs, including: 2C-B, crack cocaine, ketamine, and MDA
  • 1 was expected to be a polysubstance
  • 1 did not have a stated expected drug

Expected fentanyl samples

Of the 25 samples checked between December 21, 2019 – January 3, 2020, 36% (9) were expected to be fentanyl (44% were substances and 56% were used paraphernalia).

  • 89% (8) contained fentanyl and other drugs

Of the 9 samples expected to be fentanyl, 89% (8) contained fentanyl and other drugs. Other drugs found included:

  • 100% (8) contained 6-MAM (heroin-related)
  • 100% (8) contained caffeine
  • 75% (6) contained codeine
  • 63% (5) contained heroin
  • 50% (4) contained dextromethorphan
  • 50% (4) contained morphine
  • 38% (3) contained codeine-related
  • 38% (3) contained despropionyl fentanyl (4-ANPP)*
  • 38% (3) contained meconin (heroin-related)
  • 25% (2) contained cocaine
  • 25% (2) contained phenacetin*
  • 13% (1) contained acetyl fentanyl*
  • 13% (1) contained etizolam (benzodiazepine-related)*

 

*Unexpected noteworthy drug: “Noteworthy drugs” are drugs that are highly potent, linked to overdose or other adverse effects, or may not be desired by some clients. Noteworthy drugs are called out when they are unexpectedly found in checked samples.
